Faced with the need to replace a broken Laptop I use privately for my private Internet as well as an occasional letter, I looked into the new Netbooks. Aside the fact that they often support Linux, their size is intriguingly small for taking it along on the road, their price is a lot lower and their performance quite enough to take them on the road. Okay - the keyboard needs to get used to, but meanwhile, having one, I found, even with my male, clumsy fingers, after a little “getting used to”, I am able to type well. And it is easy enough to connect an external screen, keyboard and mouse, they are prepared to work “enroute”, something even company laptops sometimes miss is simply inbuilt standard here (webcam, microphone, WLAN)
Does it always have to be the expensive stuff? I think the success of the netbooks speaks for itself. And their success started when they used Linux as the small, effective operating system. Yes, many today are sold with XP, but if you do not necessarily need it, select Speed = Linux.
Food For Thought …
